Obituary of Michael James Clancy
CLANCY, Micael James – Passed away suddenly while at home on 23 June 2022 at the age of 67. Mike leaves behind his beloved partner of 14 years, Nancy Hunt, his sons, Ron and Noel, and step-children Zendra Bell (Matt), Lauren Rennie (Ian), Brittany Hunt (Min Seok Kim), and Hilary Kelly (David). Mike is the cherished grandfather to Evan, Benjamin, Zachary, Quinten, Sarah, Maci, Amelia, and Scarlett. Mike will be missed by his siblings Irene Spike, Anne Powers (Jim), Marg Jennings, Walter Clancy, and brother-in-law Gord Meighan. He is predeceased by his parents Maurice and Gertrude Clancy, his sister Brenda Meighan, brother-in-law George Jennings, and sister-in-law Doris Clancy.
He worked for Beechgrove Children’s Centre and then joined the Limestone District School Board as an Educational Assistant. He was known for his gruff exterior but big heart and was often found offering treats to his students.
Mike was a gregarious host with the most and always ensured everyone had a cold drink and lots of food to eat. He had knack for remembering names and dates, was the self-appointed Mayor of Glen Arden Place in Strathacona Park and was a sports enthusiast who particularly enjoyed watching his boys play minor sports in Kingston.
Cremation has been entrusted to James Reid Funeral Home and there will be a celebration of life from 1-5pm on 21 August at The Portsmouth Tavern (“The Ports”) where Mike “slung beers” for many years in his 20s and 30s. Memorial donations are appreciated by the family to Kingston Youth Sport Organization, New Leaf Link South Frontenac, or to his grandchildren’s education funds through his children directly.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Michael

  1. Knew Michael for many years and indeed he had a heart of gold. Generous to a fault he didn’t suffer fool’s and he called a spade a spade. Mike would never shy away from giving his opinion, which is very refreshing these days. We’re sorry to see you go old friend. Steven and Monica Jackson
