Tributes
Bell, Michael Wilfred
A mark of a life well lived is the impact that we have on others. It is with a sad heart that we announce the passing of Michael Wilfred Bell on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the age of 80, holding the hand of the love of his life Jan Bell, the mother of his two children Tracy Nolan (predeceased) and Dina Bell-Laroche (Pierre Laroche). He also had a very special place in his heart for Ian Crebbin (Nahid), Jan’s birth son that he welcomed as a son. Buck, as he was fondly known, was loved by so many including his younger brother Gary (Lucienne) and his older sister Carol Stevens (Bell). His parents, James Bell and Adrienne (Thomas) created a warm environment in Valleyfield, Québec where Mike grew up, learned to play sports, nourished his spiritual roots as an alter boy, and sang in the choir. His voice was something to cherish, a gift he shared with anyone who would listen. During his early years, Mike fell in love with golf, winning him lots of trophies and showing off his talents competing against people twice his age. Golf became a lifelong passion, where he was able to challenge himself and connect with others.
Mike was the very proud and loving grandfather to Dina and Pierre’s three children Elisa, Reece, and Talia Laroche and to Tracy’s son Liam Nolan. His grandchildren will most miss his boisterous laugh, his playfulness, and his warm hugs.
After graduating from Loyola College with a Business Degree in 1969, Mike worked for most of his career as a salesperson with Drytex, a division of JWI, Asten Johnson. He earned top sales awards numerous times and was respected as a loyal and fierce advocate for his clients. Going the extra mile for people he cared about was an indelible part of who Mike was.
Mike and his girls made their home in Lakeview, a quaint community in Nepean that was a gathering spot for many parties. Selling the family home in 2016 due to his dementia was one of the most challenging experiences he had to navigate, apart from the death of his youngest daughter Tracy. He made his next home at Stonehaven Manor where the staff welcomed him with open arms. In 2021, Mike needed more support, and we are so grateful to the staff at Fairview Manor – Heritage House for the love, compassion, and kindness they showed him during the last year. Dying with dignity was so important to Mike and his family and we are feeling blessed that he left this world surrounded by people who cherished him.
Mike was so fortunate to have travelled the world with his long-time companion Judy O’Riordan, who held a special place in his heart. Mike’s wishes were to have people remember his joie de vivre, his love of people, and the importance of family.
In honour of his dearly loved daughter Tracy, Mike invites those who want to remember him to make a donation to SchoolBOX, the charity that is home to Tracy’s Hope.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres Roman Catholic Church on Friday, September 9th at 11 am. Memories will be shared afterwards at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Home, 3440 Richmond Rd., Nepean, ON (between Bayshore & Baseline). Tributes, donations and condolences may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com
