With sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our loved one Michael Ryle of Calgary, Alberta, formerly of Lake St. Martin First Nation at the age of 61 years.
Michael leaves behind his daughter Larissa and granddaughter Danika; daughter Sarah and grandson Matteo; his son AJ and their mother Christine Thomas of Winnipeg. He also leaves behind his traditional spouse Joyce Kenoras (Pooley) and his stepchildren Jayna Pooley (Louise); Jennifer Pooley (Sandy Andrew); stepgrandsons Kash, Kohl, Kade and step granddaughters Kayla & Emily and his many grand fur babies in B.C. and Alberta. He also leaves behind his siblings Margaret Pollock; Susan Ryle-Munroe (Maxwell) and Norman Ryle (Jean); as well as his closest cousin Alice Traverse. His many nieces and nephews, cousins and relatives in Winnipeg, Lake St. Martin, Fisher River, Churchill, Berens River, Pinaymootang, Newfoundland and Dauphin River.
Predeceased by family: Father George Ryle (1997) & Mother Maria Ryle (2002) of Lake St. Martin; siblings; Marjorie (1947); Dennis (1964); Josephine (1972); Gerald (1977); Linda (1997); Montgomery (2006); Silas (2011); Ruth (2012); William (2015); Ernest (2018); Alex (2021) and his late step son, Hat Pooley (2016) Michael had a very unique sense of humor and very quick witted with what he had to share. He loved living in ‘Cowtown” as he always called Calgary and always enjoyed the Calgary Stampede of which he never missed.
Despite battling cancer for many years, he was still able to work as a roofer whenever he could. When he saw a person in need, he would stop and help. Michael celebrated his 6th year sobriety of which we distantly celebrated with him, regardless of where we were. He was a very spiritual man and offered gratitude always to the Creator God. He was on the path of seeking forgiveness from all he had done wrong, but then his life was cut short very quickly. He always prayed The Serenity Prayer which will sum up Michael’s life:
God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, no as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
Rest in peace our baby brother as you join to complete another link with our family’s chain.
