Michael Francis O’Shea of Barrie, Ontario passed away on Dec 9,2022 after a brief illness.
Michael was born in Toronto on August 23, 1947 to parents Eva and Jeremiah O’Shea. He was the youngest of four children, and is predeceased by Brian and Maureen, and survived by his sister Patricia (Dave). Michael joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1967 and served for 20 years in various roles. After retiring in 1987 he embarked on a more than 40 year career as a management consultant, building his own business into a nationally recognized leader in the field.
Michael filled many roles in his life, as a son, brother, uncle, friend, military pilot, and successful business person. He would be the first to tell you, however, that his greatest accomplishment in life was his family. He married the love of his life, Joanne, in 1969 and was a loving father to Colleen (Bill), Kelly (Shawn) and Tim (Madeleine). He was the “Best Gramps Ever” to Gavin, Ethan, Evelyn, Owen, Nicola, Quinn, Rebecca, Thomas, Myles and Clara. His dedication to his family is legendary and the example that he set will remain our guiding light.
Michael was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early November and over the following month he received exceptionally kind care from the palliative care team at Royal Victoria Hospital under the leadership of Dr. Alex Dickson, and from the outstanding community palliative care nurses and PSWs. In the last week of his life he was cared for at Hospice Simcoe. His family extends our sincere thanks to all of the nurses, PSWs and volunteers who treated him and us with such kindness.
