Obituary
Michael “Mike” Elvin Cluderay of Bentley, Alberta died on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital at the age of 79 years.
Mike was born in England, on September 27, 1943, to parents Gladys Rosenthal (who was British) and Elvin Newton Cluderay (who was RCAF). Elvin was lost in the war before Mike was born, but the family grew with stepfather, Arnie Blair, and half brother, Ian.
He moved to Ontario at the age of 20 to be with his Canadian family and trained as a teacher. He re-located to the NWT in 1969 and taught Inuit children for four years before becoming Settlement Manager in Coral Harbour. Mike was married to Pat Dann on August 1, 1974 in Coral Harbour, NWT (now Nunavut). He was subsequently hired by the Government of NWT as municipal affairs officer and then human resources manager in various locations in the North. Mike spent time “on the land” with Inuit friends and developed a working knowledge of Inuktituk. He moved to Alberta in 1999 after retiring from 30 years in the North.
Mike is survived by wife of 48 years, Pat Cluderay; sons, Paul and Dave; and grandchildren, Rachel, Caeley, Gabriel and Daniel; as well as numerous extended family and dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Gladys and Elvin, and his half brother, Ian.
