Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Michael James Gear announce his sudden passing on Thursday July 21, 2022 in hospital in Mexico after a short illness at the age of 56 years.
Michael leaves to mourn his friend Catherine Ryan, two daughters: Loretta (Mike) McPhee, Wanda, and five grandchildren: Jaxson, Logan, Summer, Benjamin, and Addison, all of Spryfield, NS
Mother: Lucy Gear, Gander, NL
Brothers: Paul (Mary), Fort McMurray, AB
Robert (Ursula), Gander NL,
Sister: Jocelyn (Ed) Downton, Gander NL.
Nephews: Stephen, Marcus, Michael, Christopher and David
Nieces: Sara, Krista, Janet and Robyn
and a wide circle of extended relatives and friends.
Michael was predeceased by granddaughter,
Kara-lynn; father, Thomas Gear; sister, Janet Adams and brother in-law Donald Adams
Michael left home at a young age to study marine
diesel mechanics in St. Johns, then spent twenty years in the Navy working at his trade.
Michael was a free spirit. He spent the last seventeen years in Mexico, meeting new people and showing hospitality to one and all. He always had a place for someone in need to stay.
Michael quickly learned to speak Spanish while in Mexico and made it his home. He was the one people turned to for help and guidance while trying to find their way in Mexico. Michael loved to travel and socialize with everyone, enjoying a beer and tapping his foot to his favourite music by John Prine.
Michael was well-travelled, reading everything he got his hands on, leading to a vast knowledge of the world and current
