Michael Edward Hawrysh
June 18, 1953 to July 2, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Michael (Mike) Hawrysh passed away peacefully on July 2, 2022 at the Gimli Hospital.
Michael leaves to mourn his loving wife Rachael, mother Margaret Hawrysh, father-in-law Ron Gilkes, sons Kelvin Ramsey and Greg Gilkes (Issis), daughters Lori-Lynn Rochon and Tiffany Taylor (Kyle), brothers Ron Hawrysh (Jeane) and Barry Hawrysh, sisters Elaine Hawkins (Steve) and Susan Duff (Keith). Beloved grandchildren Natasha, Kenneth, Derick, Joseph, Verona, Maya, Lennon and Cohen. Special cousin Alice Ellison, and so many friends and relatives.
Mike was predeceased by his first wife Joan Hawrysh, father Edward Hawrysh, infant brother Hawrysh and mother-in-law Anne Gilkes.
Mike grew up in Winnipeg Beach on the family farm. He moved to Selkirk where he met and married Joan. Joan had 2 children (Kelvin and Lori-Lynn) whom they raised together. They moved to Winnipeg Beach and lived there until her passing in 1997.
Mike met Rachael in 1998, and they were married in 2009 until his passing. Rachael had 2 children (Tiffany and Greg) whom he helped raise from teens.
Mike was an incredible father to all 4 children, and loved them unconditionally.
Mike worked at Selkirk Lumber and then at the Selkirk Rolling Mills for 30 years before he retired in 2010. Incredibly talented, Mike was the go to for anything. Always good advice and always a helping hand.
Mike loved being a grandfather (papa). There was nothing more special to him than spending time with his grandkids. Animals loved Mike and he was always the go to for treats, cuddles, and play. The coffee pot was always on for visitors.
Special thanks to Mike’s very good buddies Uncle Andy and Wayne for help with snow removal this past winter. Thank you to all of the family for providing any assistance Mike or Rachael required. There at the drop of a hat, as he was for them. It takes a village and that’s what they are.
Thank you to Dr. Ade, and staff at Gimli Hospital for their great care. Thank you to palliative care nurse Melanie for being an advocate and sharing knowledge with us for the months when Mike was at home.
As per Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
