Obituary
Michael Alexander Crighton
Following his service in the Air Force Michael and his wife Edith (dec.) with children Michael (dec.) and Philip resided and worked very hard in the Far North where there was an active mining community.
Michael had a strong entrepreneurial spirit. On leaving the North Country he owned and operated the Kearney Hotel, the Windsor Hotel and the Huntsville Downs Golf Club enjoying the comradery of his patrons, many who became longtime friends. On retirement Michael moved to Prince Edward Island for several years, renovating his home, helping his friends on their potato farm and tending to their horses.
As a master carpenter/jack of all trades Michael had a talent for renovating older homes, restoring them to their original glory and filling them with his prized antiques. Prior to returning to Huntsville his final renovation was a lovely little home in St. Thomas Ontario.
Michael shared his passion for cooking the most delicious meals over the years with lifelong family friends, Helen and Evan (dec.) Jenkins and their daughters Stephanie, Shelley, Anna Mary and their families. Helen and Michael enjoyed each other and having many shared interests, with blessings from their delighted family, married in 2009.
With a love for travel Michael and Helen enjoyed many holidays, travelling to Ireland, enjoying the sunset on several tropical Islands, exploring Canada from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island, and finally settled for wintering in Arizona. Michael had previously had a most enjoyable adventure in China for which he shared many colorful stories.
The past few years have been quietly spent enjoying the garden, visiting with their many good neighbors, reading, coloring, celebrating family occasions, listening to good music and snuggling up for a good movie.
Michael was a survivor of cancer. He suffered from Peripheral Neuropathy causing his legs to give out and having him fall on occasion and sometimes injure himself. With his final fall he fractured his hip and required surgery. He also tested positive for covid. Due to his advanced age of 91 years and all other factors Michael passed peacefully after two weeks in the care of the wonderful East Wing Health Team at Huntsville Hospital. The family is grateful for their gentle care.
His wishes are being honored and following his instruction there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers please support our Huntsville Hospital.
