We sadly announce the passing of Mervin Bannon, age 82, who passed away in Regina, Saskatchewan on April 14, 2022. Mervin was born December 4, 1939 in FWFN and later moved to Regina, where he went to school and got his Master’s Degree and PhD in Social Work. As a social worker in Regina, he worked at the Indian Friendship Centre. He had a hard life as a survivor of residential school and also as a recovering alcoholic of 40 years or more. He also worked in Silver Bay as a diamond driller in his early years. Mervin will be sadly missed by his children John Bannon, Shirley Everett, and Roberta Fenton (Jeff), brother Clyde Bannon, sister Ione Bannon, and numerous nieces, nephews and grand kids. He was predeceased by parents Patrick and Florence, brothers Richard Sr., Paul, Ralph, Gilbert, and Gordon McPhersen, sisters Georgina, Maureen, Patsy, and Laura. Funeral services for Mervin will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at St. Anne’s Church, with Mass beginning at 11am and visitation an hour prior in the church. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
