Obituary of Merlin Churchill Longaphee
Merlin Churchill Longaphee of Charlottetown and formerly of Souris Line Road and Village Green passed away at Whisperwood Villa Seniors Home on January 12, 2022, at the age of 79.
Merlin is survived by his children Gladys (Erin), Merlin (Diane), Ian and their mother Paulette (Carter) Longaphie; Merlina (MacGillivary) Jones and Michael MacGillivary; his grandchildren Ryan, Joshua and Amy Bowman, Adam and Alisha Longaphie; his brother Francis Longaphee; special friend Matilde Palacios; and many nieces and nephews. Merlin is predeceased by his parents James and Annie (MacKinnon) Longaphee, his brothers Jack and George and his sister Mary Gregory.
Merlin’s love of farming began as a child on the Souris Line Road. Later he farmed in Village Green. He loved horses and took great pleasure in riding. Merlin’s love for fiddle music spanned many years. He enjoyed playing and for several years was a member of The Queens County Fiddlers Association. As a young man, he experienced a health setback which inspired him to study and practice holistic health and wellness.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Whisperwood Villa Seniors Home for the excellent care given to Merlin. A special thank you to Matilde for her care and compassion throughout Merlin’s illness.
Resting at Hillsboro Funeral Home, Stratford. Due to current restrictions, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Interment will take place later at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made online to Alzheimer Society of PEI.
