Melvin Mel Carl Land 19372022

Melvin “Mel” Carl Land
1937-2022
Mel Land, 85, of Forest Dale Home and formerly of Hopewell
Cape passed away peacefully on November 1st, 2022 at the home
with his family by his side.
Mel was born on February 14th, 1937 the son of the late
Albert and Frances (Carlin) Land.
He worked with the Department of Transportation and was a
Bridge Supervisor. His passion was horse racing,
one of his favourite places to be was in the barn or on the
track. He made many lifelong friends all over the Maritimes
in the industry. He enjoyed training the horses on his own
little track at home. He also enjoyed gardening,
working in the woods, and putting his tractor to good use.
Mel had a special place in his heart for animals and had many cats
running around the barn. He was a member of the
Valley Baptist Church and in the past few years enjoyed reading his
Bible. He enjoyed visits from family and friends and always
had a joke or story to share. When Mel started with that
little turned up side grin you knew he was up to something.
He loved to have a good laugh and never took himself too
seriously. Mel was the type of guy you really did
not have to ask what he was thinking, he would clearly tell what was
on his mind. He always had a cure for any health
problems you might have. He swore by taking horse pills or
making up concoctions out of weeds or plants in the pasture.
It seemed to work as he was able to stay in his own home until a few
months ago. Although today’s doctors may disagree.
Mel definitely has left an impression on everyone he met. He
was one of the oldest original members of the Hopewell Cape Community
that has lived here his whole life and we are sure his legacy and
stories of his antics will live on forever.
He will be missed by his children, Michael Land (Edith) of
Edgett’s Landing, Stephen Land of Hopewell Cape, Cynthia Stevens (Ken)
of Cape Station and Jeff Land (Nancy) of Hillsborough; his 4
grandchildren, Melody (Joe), Jason (Kiersten), Breanne (DJ) and Alice
and 1 great granddaughter, Nadia. He will also be missed by
many close cousins and by all his extended family and
friends.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his
wife, Beverley (Terris) Land; sister, Shirley Christopher and
daughter-in-law, Marie Brideau-Land.
He will be resting at the Surrey Valley Baptist Church with
a time of visitation an hour prior to the service on Sunday from
1:30-2:30pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Surrey
Valley Baptist Church on Sunday, November 6th, 2022
at 2:30pm with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. There will be
a time for sharing memories and refreshments following the service in
the Church Fellowship Center. A private family committal
service will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery, Lower Cape,
NB.
For those who wish donations to the Mountain View Cemetery,
Surrey Valley Baptist Church or CARMA would be greatly
appreciated.
Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral
Home, 4130 Route 114, Hopewell Cape, NB, E4H-3K2
