Melville Vernon Giles Thursday March 17th 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Melville (Mel) Giles announces his sudden passing on Thursday March 17th, 2022 in his 78th year, at Credit Valley Hospital. Mel was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Joan Giles, and is survived by his partner Bev Harris and his children: Dan (Mary), Larry(Julie), Kelly (Ed), and Shelly (Hilary) and Bev’s son Jack (Kim). Mel was a proud grandfather to Adam (Trina), Blayne (Christina), Michael (Samantha), Alyson, Kyle, Jeff, Ethan and Elle. Mel was the youngest of 7 children to parents Sarah and John Gilesof Shelburne, ON.
He leaves behind many extended family members and friends. A long time resident of Brampton, Ontario, Mel was a down to earth, kind, family man and glad his children and extended family were close by for holiday gatherings and frequent visits.
Mel was active in the Standard-bred horse community and nothing made him happier than talking with people about his family and race horses. Mel spent many years racing Standardbred horses, road tripping around Canada and Florida, snowmobiling, boating and cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events. If you wish, a donation to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Canadian Cancer Society in Mel’s memory would be appreciated.
