Melba Cardozo
(1928 -2022)
Passed away peacefully on April 5, 2022 at age 93.
Predeceased by her husband Leonard (Len) Cardozo in 1996. She will be greatly missed by her loving family including Robin & Jeff, Andrew, Joann, Barbara Anne & Carl, Rebecca & Maurice, her grandchildren, Troy and Cassandra Cardozo-Richardson, Alice and Anthony Cardozo, Natalie, Melanie and Joseph Mathias and Daniel and Rachel D’Lima, her surviving siblings, Gloria Ferreira, Joanna Pinto Mascarenhas and Austin Pinto, members of the Pinto and Cardozo families,staff and fellow-residents at Gibson and her many friends in Canada and elsewhere.
Born in Karachi, she and her family moved to Canada in 1974 with Len and family, where she became active in many spheres of life, her church, politics and community. She worked for many years at Canada Carbon and Ribbon, putting her considerable administrative and human resources skills to good use and helping her children through university (which included typing their papers well into the night!). A great host, chef and musical entertainer, she spent many good years in Weston, on Upper Maddison and then at the Chartwell Gibson Retirement Residence.A voracious piano player from childhood, through many a gathering during the family years and at the seniors home, and playing the organ at her parish church, she brought joy to thousands through her life. Happily we have many recordings of her making music. Her fervent wish is that everyone learn to play at least one instrument!
A huge thank you to the staff at Gibson, her happy home of the last eight years, for their dedication, and love especially over the last year– the Personal Support Workers, dining room staff, chefs,nurses, doctors, administrators and the palliative care team from Freeman Centre for Palliative Care at NYGH.She was brave and sanguine through her year-long battle with cancer.
There will be a funeral Service at 10:00 am, on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist -Weston Catholic Church, 49 George Street, Weston, Ontario.The mass will be live-streamed on the Facebook page of the Church. A private burial will be held later.
To maintain a safe space especially for guests who are elderly or immuno-compromised, we hope you will understand that we ask all attendees to wear a mask at the service and be fully vaccinated.For reasons of health safety we regret that we will not have a viewing.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice, especially to help the poor, the victimized and the underprivileged.
