MCINTYRE, Richard John
July 23, 1950 — December 19, 2022
With deep sadness, we announce the death of Richard John McIntyre, on December 19, at Kelowna General Hospital, where he passed, surrounded by his dear wife Maureen and his loving sons, Duncan and Cameron.
Rick and his wife Maureen moved to Kelowna in 1974 from Winnipeg and settled down in the Mission to raise a family. In 1975, with his friend Dan MacDonald, he opened Johnathan Browne Furniture and later, Paradise Patio. Rick was a major player in furniture retail in Kelowna for many years, until he left the furniture business to become a commercial building contractor. After being involved in a number of commercial projects, he found his true passion in the world of finance.
Always a people person, Rick chose a career as a financial advisor, as he loved helping others make the most of their financial futures. He remained an active financial advisor until the end.
As a long-time member of Kelowna Golf and Country Club, he loved to golf with his friends and was always prepared to help them with their golf swings, whether they wanted it or not! Most of all, Rick loved an evening at the Club with friends and family and always had a kind word for the staff that served him there.
Over the years, Rick was a huge supporter of the Gospel Mission, the Kelowna Food Bank, the Women’s Shelter, and the Angel Fund at Christmas time, because helping people was what he did best!
He loved his grandchildren above all else, and though later it was difficult for him to participate in their activities, Rick always loved hearing about their projects and being apart of their lives.
Rick left us all too soon, but now, we know that he’s with his dear friend Wayne, playing some golf and sharing a glass!
