Maureen O’Grady (nee Roddy)
The family of Maureen O’Grady is saddened to announce her peaceful passing Friday, July 22, 2022 during her 81st year at Centennial Place, Millbrook. Loving mother of Mary Macfarlane, Philip, Joseph and Kevin O’Grady, mother-in-law to Ken Macfarlane, Joanne O’Grady and Lisa O’Grady; Grandma O’ to Colin (Lindsay) and Christopher (Katie) Macfarlane, Michael (Olivia), Gregory (Brittany), Ryan and Sean O’Grady. Great Grandma to Lillian, Ben and Isla Macfarlane. Cherished sister of Sister Therese Roddy, Jim (Grace) Roddy, Catherine (Bob) Robertson, Joe (Pat) Roddy, Mary Jaynes and sister-in-law to Bryan Hopkins. Aunt Maureen will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews and godchildren.
Predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, William , sister Adele Hopkins and brother-in-law Robert Jaynes.
Second child born of Cyril and Aileen Roddy, Maureen grew up on the family farm in Burnley, attended high school in Cobourg and later Peterborough Teacher’s College. A dedicated primary school teacher for 37 years, teaching at St. Michael’s, Cobourg, Percy Centennial, Warkworth and Castleton Public School and initiating the Junior Kindergarten program at Hillcrest Public School, Campbellford in 1986.
Lifelong member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, Warkworth with over sixty years of service to the Catholic Women’s League. Maureen’s other interests included photography, gardening, bird watching, dancing, travelling, country music, family re-unions and baking the best chelsea buns.
In her retirement, she served her community by volunteering for the Warkworth Lilac Festival, Cursillo, community dinners, and palliative care at Campbellford Memorial Hospital and Bridge Hospice.
Visitation will be held at Weaver – Warkworth, 70 Church St., Warkworth on Wednesday July 27, 2022 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Jerome’s Catholic Church, Warkworth on Thursday July 28, 2022 at 11am. Interment St. Jerome’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bridge Hospice, Warkworth, World Vision Canada or Friends of Honduran Children.
