Maureen Ann Radigan Arbour Saturday July 2nd 2022

Radigan, Maureen (nee Arbour)
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Maureen Radigan on July 2, 2022, in her 87th year. This was her 62nd wedding anniversary to her beloved husband, the late Thomas Radigan. Proud mother of the late Shannon (David Shaw), Paula (Mario LaPorta), Erin (Judson Teeft) and Michelle (Bill Marriott). Loving grandmother to Richard, Jason, Danielle, Adam, Cohen, Angela and William. Dearly missed by her brother Joseph Arbour, nephew Blake and niece Ashley, as well as a multitude of cousins and good friends. Maureen was a remarkable woman. She had many gifts and used them in dedicated service to the Hamilton Catholic and greater Hamilton communities throughout her lifetime. She was a proud graduate of St.Joseph’s School of Nursing (class of ‘57). Maureen was actively involved with the nursing school as editor of the nursing paper and for many years with the alumni. Some of her proudest achievements were those where she felt she had made a contribution to an individual’s life. A few of her other accomplishments include advocating for full government funding of Catholic Education in Ontario, supporting the implementation of the Block Parent Plan in Hamilton, and actively serving as elected School Board Trustee on the Hamilton Catholic School Board for over 10 years. Never being idle, Maureen became a real estate agent after stepping down as trustee. Maureen’s lifelong involvement in politics led her to an appointment as Returning Officer for Hamilton Mountain, followed by being named Chief Returning Officer for Central Ontario. Inspired by her love of art and education, she returned to school while also a semi-retired realtor. She earned a Certificate of Art History from McMaster University which she immediately put to use volunteering as a docent for the Hamilton Art Gallery. She consistently supported a number of charitable organizations. Most dear to her heart were the St. John’s Soup Kitchen (Kitchener) and the Good Shepherd (Hamilton) where she also volunteered. Her love of travel bloomed in the 50’s with her European adventures during a nursing placement in London, England. Together, Maureen and Tom had many wonderful vacations around the world. One very special trip was visiting Ireland, where Tom retraced his roots and Maureen re-lived her kiss of the Blarney Stone. In later years they turned to cruising and when the grandchildren came along, so did unforgettable family trips. Thanks Mom.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Derek Coull, Roxy, and the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their professionalism, care and kindness. Visitation will be held at P.X.Dermody Funeral Home, 796 Upper Gage Ave, Hamilton, Sunday July 10, from 1:00-3:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Prayers at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated from the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Village, 393 Rymal Rd. (Garth St. entrance) Monday, July 11 at 11:30 a.m. As an expression of sympathy donations to the Good Shepherd Hamilton would be greatly appreciated.
