Burgeo, NL
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that Matthew Thomas Billard of Burgeo passed away at the Western Long Term Care Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brookon Monday, June 14, 2022 at the age of 83 years. Matt was the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth Billard. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce; daughters: Yvonne (Barry) and Verna (Billy); grandchildren: Shevonne, Sheldon, Jessica and Ryan; great-grandchildren: Shea, Skyler, Kendall, Gracie, Clara, and Marrisa; sisters: Jane and Eileen; brothers: Albert and Lewelyn; as well as many nieces and nephew, whom he adored. Matthew was predeceased by his brother Archibald and sister Annie. Matt had lots of hobbies such as fishing, hunting, reading, and making little dories. He was also a historian and a comedian. He loved to tell a good story, it would always end in “That’s a true story.” He always kept up with all the events going on in the world. Matt fished on the draggers until joining The Canadian Coast Guard from where he retired after 23 years.
The family is very appreciative to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook. You guys are all amazing.
Thank you so much to Connie Strickland, you took care of us and tucked us under your wing. Not only are you his niece, but also a very compassionate nurse. We don’t know how we would have gotten through this without you. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
As per Matt’s request, cremation has taken place, there will be no funeral service.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Matthew
