Obituary of Mary Ann Fickes
Fickes, Mary Ann (Pugsley) – 89, of Annapolis Royal, passed away February 28, 2022 peacefully at home. Born August 2, 1932, in West Brook, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Myrtle (Canning) Pugsley. Mary Ann was a 1953 graduate of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow and a 1955 BScN graduate from Dalhousie University, Halifax. She worked in Saint John, New Brunswick before moving to Kentville, to work at the Sanatorium. Mary Ann then moved to Annapolis Royal where she worked with the VON and as a public health nurse. She was greatly involved in her community volunteering many hours with the hospital auxiliary, Seniors Housing Authority, the Sunday school and choir at St. George and St. Andrew United Church, and Girl Guides of Canada as a leader. Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Glenn) Pate, Mahone Bay; Heather (Ken) Foote, Conquerall Mills; stepson, Jack (Anna) Fickes, Martins River; grandchildren, Brandon, Caitlin (Scott Ryan), Benjamin, Colin, Christopher (Sarah Bunnell); sister, Joan (Bruce) Crowe, Truro; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles Webb Fickes; stepson, Don (Kathi) Fickes; brothers, Stewart and Horace; sisters, Melvina and Doris. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Annapolis Royal. A funeral service will be held 2:00pm Friday, March 11, 2022 in St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal, with Rev. Elisabeth Bachem – Jennings officiating. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery. Covid -19 restrictions will apply. Masks are required. Venue will be at 75% capacity limit. Service will be webcast onto funeral homes website. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Annapolis Community Health Centre, Annapolis Royal or to a charity of choice.
