Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Retieffe announce her passing on Thursday, July 21st, 2022 at her residence after a long illness, with her family by her side at the age of 82. She was born in Lourdes to the late Joe and Carrie Cluney and later married Raymond Retieffe. They raised their family of eight children in West Bay.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all that knew her. She loved her family fiercely and was a mother to all who knew her. There was always tea and a lunch ready for anyone who stopped to visit.
Mary leaves to mourn with fond memories: her husband Raymond of 64 years; her sons: Joe (Beverly) of Sheaves Cove, Phil (Nina), and Jerry (Joanne) of Mainland, and Terry (Alicia) and Alban (Regina) of West Bay; daughter Trudy (Doug) of Oshawa; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She is also remembered by: her brothers: Gus (Bessie) of Kippens and Peter of Boswarlos; her sister Vivian (Charlie) of Pennsylvania; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She is predeceased by: her parents Joe and Carrie Cluney; sons: Greg and Melvin; brothers: Joseph, Alban, and Bernard; and her sisters: Gladys, Theresa, Gloria, Vanisa, and Laverna.
As per Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A service will be held at Russell’s Funeral Home Chapel in Stephenville on Wednesday, July 27th at 11:00 AM with interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in West Bay.
“A limb has fallen from the family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, ‘Grieve not for me’. Remember the best times, the laugher, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes we’re together again.”
