Mary Flavelle
of Kenora and formerly of Emsdale, Ontario.
On Monday August 22, 2022, Mary Flavelle (nee Raynor) died at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital in her 79th year.
Beloved wife of Ronald (Rick) Flavelle and the late Charles McAughey, mother of Mark McAughey, Scott McAughey (Lynn) and Dean McAughey (Kyla); step-mother to Lisa DiBerardino (Claudio), Lynn McAughey (and Lori Tate (Michael); Grandmother of Charlie and Lauren McAughey, Sean McAughey (Maddy); Liam McAughey (Alexis), Kate-Lynn and Hailey McAughey, Matthew DiBerardino (Cassandra DuFour), Megan Della Mattia (Rob), Maggie and Noah Tate; great Grandmother of Maya McAughey, Lochlan McAughey, and Abigail Della Mattia.
Predeceased by Mother Lillian, Siblings Clifford, Ronald, Nancy, Karl, Dale, Debbie and Donna. Survived by brother Norman, brother-in-law Gordon Hopcraft, and sister-in-law Shirley Raynor.
Mary was passionate about family and community. With her husband, Rick, they were actively involved in the Kearney Community Centre Committee and the Lions Club. Rick and Mary had just recently moved to Kenora, Ontario where they spent the summer with Scott, Lynn McAughey and family. Mary was a gracious host, known for her culinary and home-making talents, and her loving relationships with her family! Rick and Mary just purchased their new lakeside home and had already made connections with members of the Kenora Lake of the Woods Lions Club.
The family will receive visitors at a small Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the Alcock Funeral Home, 821 St Clair St, Keewatin, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation (lwdhf.com/) and/or St. Alban’s Cathedral (stalbanskenora.ca/).
At Mary’s request, the family will also receive visitors at the Opatovsky Funeral Home-Dempster Chapel, 210 Ontario Street in Burk’s Falls, Ontario.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of the late Mrs. Mary Flavelle will be held at the Anglican Parish of The Good Shepherd, 2190 ON-592, Emsdale, Ontario with Reverend Catherine Murkin officiating and interment will take place at the Knox United Cemetery in Kearney, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Parish of Good Shepherd, Emsdale, Ontario or to the Royal Canadian Legion, H. White Memorial Branch 276.
