Mary Matilda Hodgson McMillan Saturday July 16th 2022

Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mary Hodgson (McMillan), on July 16th, 2022, at Victoria Manor, with family by her side. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Larry. She was an especially proud mother of Brad (Samantha), Sharie Smallwood (Rod), and Brian (Kathy). She cherished her grandchildren Jack (Katie), Harry (Elly), Thomas (Clare), Clarissa (Nate), Devin, Logan, Nicholas (Shanna), and Emily and she was tickled pink by her great-granddaughter Hailey. Mary was born and raised on the family farm, in the Beaverton area. She was the fourth of eight children born to Jack and Sara (Hill) McMillan. Her upbringing taught her the value of family, hard work and to make time to pursue your passions in life. Mary lived her life to the fullest; you could never say that Mary did not achieve what she set out to do. She had a thirst for knowledge and this allowed her to nurture and hone many talents. She could sew, so why not sew your own wedding dress? Yet never one to be wasteful, her wedding dress was fashioned into curtains for her home. She studied to be a hairdresser. Her trade served her well as she ran a successful hair shop in her home; this allowed her to provide an income and keep a watchful eye on her children. Mary’s home was her fortress, she designed it, she built it and she ruled over it. She welcomed more than family into her home, her table was always big enough to invite a few more, sometimes ten more people for dinner. Every meal was made from scratch and cooked to perfection. There may have been the odd gibe that a pie was welded to the dish, but no one left her table hungry and not a scrap of pie was wasted. Mary was a talented artist and she shared her talents with many students. Her artwork hangs in numerous homes and businesses in the surrounding communities, and will be cherished by many generations to come. Mary contributed to her community immensely. She spent many hours volunteering with the Beaverton Curling Club, the Beaverton Fair Board and the East Lake Simcoe Art Association. Many women have done wonderful things, but Mary has outclassed them all
