Mary Marguerite “Marg” Rioux
1928-2022
Marguerite (Marg) Rioux passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at
Colville Manor Nursing Home in Souris, PEI, aged 94.
Born in Fredericton, NB, the second youngest of five
children, she lived in Stanley, NB, returning to Fredericton and
attending Fredericton High School, where she graduated in 1945. At 17,
she began working for the Provincial Government of New Brunswick in
the Department of Health, where she remained for a year before moving
to the Department of Justice. For the following 46 years, she worked
within the Department of Justice in various capacities, finishing as a
Licensing Officer for Insurance Adjustors. At the time of her
retirement, she was the longest serving civil servant in the history
of the New Brunswick government.
An athlete in her youth, Marg played softball with the CYO
Softball League from 1949-1953, and as champions, the team was
inducted into the Softball N.B. Inc. Hall of Fame in June
2013.
An accomplished pianist, she spent several years volunteering
her skills at many nursing homes in the Fredericton area, where she
led many an enthusiastic singalong while accompanying on
piano.
Marg is survived by her daughter Colleen of Calgary, daughter
Holly (Philip) of Morell, PEI, and son Kerry (Carol) of Calgary; her
grandchildren Anna Pierlot, Jessica Wourms (Joseph), Luke Pierlot
(Erica) Virginia Pierlot, all of Morell, and Nicholas Pierlot (Denise)
of Bruno, Saskatchewan, as well as Carlie and Kellan Rioux of Calgary.
She was the proud great grandmother to 7 great-grandchildren to date.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Doris Fury and Elynor
Cunningham, and her brothers Bill and Jack Graham.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 10, 2022
at 12:05 p.m. from St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church,
Fredericton, followed by interment in the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those who so wish may make a donation to your
favourite charity in Marguerite’s honour.
