Obituary
Mary Lou Balkham passed away peacefully on July 16, 2022, at the age of 85. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Balkham and her daughters Carrie and Peggy. She is remembered by her daughter Kelly (Garth), Granddaughters JennaLee, TaraLynn (Ben) and Taryn.
Mary Lou was born in 1937 and raised in Foremost, Alberta. Her parents, Dave and Tillie Brown later moved Mary Lou and her brothers Allen, Jim, and Buster to Lethbridge. She shared many stories about her childhood friends Rom and Kay and the fun they had while growing up. After marrying Stan, Mary Lou frequently moved around Alberta as he pursued his career. Wherever they lived, her friendly personality soon made them feel at home. Upon retirement, Mary Lou and Stan made their permanent home in High River. She loved her community and created many happy memories with her friends and neighbours. She was an active member of the High River Handicrafts Guild, where she sewed many quilts for family and charity. Mary Lou and Stan enjoyed travelling abroad, as well as touring Canada and the United States in their motorhome.
Thank you to the staff at Seasons Retirement Community who cared for Mary Lou with compassion and kindness. You were greatly appreciated.
There will be a family gathering held at a later date.
