It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Marie Jean Boudreau on September 1st, 2022 at the Strait Richmond Hospital, with her family by her side. Jean was born on February 3, 1939 in Arichat to the late Amédée and Theresa (Goyetche) LeBlanc.
As a young wife and mother, she worked at Booth Fisheries in Petit de Grat and spoke fondly of the camaraderie and the fun the women had while working on the assembly line. She worked as a tax preparer at H&R Block in Port Hawkesbury for several years, until she had her youngest son Keegan.
She was an active member of the St Joseph’s CWL and loved to sing with the St Joseph’s Parish choir.
She loved to cook and bake and the smell of her delicious freshly baked homemade bread and meat pie brought much joy to her children and grandchildren.
She was always happy to see family, friends, and her children’s friends and looked forward to the next visit or phone call.
She loved her family with all her heart. She is survived by her sons Ron, Michel, and Keegan and her daughter Marlene; her grandchildren, Chad (Ashley), Angie, Blake, Jade (Tyler)Blair, and Liam and Abbey. She was so proud of the adults they had become.
She felt so blessed to have lived to not only meet her great-granddaughter Hayden Jean Blair but to have had her in her life for the last 3 years. To hear her talk and call her Mimi. The joy Hayden brought to her life was immeasurable. She was so proud of Alex Blair and Jack Blair and welcomed them to our family with open arms.
She is survived by her sister Pauline Forbes, brother and sister-in-law Adrian and Geraldine Boudreau, brother-in-law Gerard Boudreau, sister-in-law Alice Boudreau and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Lionel, her sister Catherine (Ken) Wood, her brothers James LeBlanc and Gerald (Shirley) LeBlanc, sister-in-law Eunice Boudreau(who was like a sister), brothers-in-law Ceasar(Melda) Boudreau, Ludger Boudreau and her grand nephew Logan Boudreau.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ron MacCormick (oncologist and friend) and the nurses at the Cape Breton Cancer Center for the exceptional care provided over the last 6 years. We would like to thank Dr. Howard and the nurses at St Martha’s Hospital for the exceptional care provided in the last 2 months.
We would like to thank Dr. Stephen DeRoache (whom she was so happy to see) and the nurses at the Strait Richmond Hospital for the exceptional care provided. Although her stay there was very brief, she felt so happy and fortunate to have had the opportunity to have been transferred there.
Last but not least, we want to thank her niece Charmaine. Mom felt solace in her last hours knowing that you were there.
Reposer en paix Maman, Mémé, Mimi. Vous nous manquerez beaucoup.
There will be no visitation or funeral mass per request. A graveside service will take place on September 14th at 11 am in Our Lady of Assumption Parish Cemetery, Arichat. Memorial donations can be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Care “Patients” in Sydney or to St. Anne’s Centre in Arichat.
