It is with heavy hearts that we announce our loving Wife and Mother, Mary Joan Mulford, passed away peacefully on Monday October 3, 2022. Through our sadness we are comforted with the knowledge that she lived a full and active life filled with love, friends, and family.
Mary was born in Mitchell, Ontario as the second last of ten siblings to Sam and Kate Clark on February 5, 1938. Living in a house filled with brothers and sisters, loving parents, fun and laughter was a memory Mary treasured her entire life.
Survived by her loving husband Wesley Mulford, daughters Deborah (Jeff Graham) and Linda (Andy Hum), and devoted grandchildren Ashley, Stephen and Nathanial. Predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Kate Clark of Mitchell, and mother and father in-law, Archibald and Winnifred Mulford of Stratford. Loved by family: Doris Blow (Alfred); Frank Clark (Nora); William Clark (Irene); Jim Clark (Peg); John Clark (Jean); Ruth Wagner (Don); Margaret Leis (Mose); Nancy Law (Ron); Barbara Sholdice (Gary); Raymon Mulford (Ruth); and Doreen Templeton (Tom). Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Wes met Mary at a dance held at the Kawana’s club in Stratford when he spotted her beauty and asked her to dance. They married two years later in 1958 at the Anglican Church in Mitchell, the same church Mary and her sisters Nancy and Barb would sing in the choir. The pair went on to have three children: Deborah Ann Mulford-Graham, Stephen John (late), Linda Joan Mulford-Hum. Sadly, tragedy struck the family in August of 1977 when their beloved teenage son Stephen passed away suddenly by Cancer. Mary’s faith was strong and very important to her and helped her to weather the storm in these tough times.
Mary was always busy, working and giving of her time in service to St. Pauls Anglican church. At the church, she served as President of the Chancel Guild for many years. Mary worked for 25 years at the Stratford Festival in the box office, mail room and as an usher. There she made many friends and enjoyed the perks of working for a world class theatre by enjoying many of the performances.
Mary had many dear friends. She was a member of the “card club” gals who met each month to have a laugh, catch up on their lives and occasionally play cards, for over 50 years. Mary also had many interests; she loved flowers and gardening, a passion that she had a natural gift for. With Wes, she enjoyed travelling with their friends and family, vacationing in Florida, and summers at the cottage in Point Clark with the grandkids.
Mum’s nurturing and caring spirit had a tremendous impact on the lives of those she touched, she will be truly missed.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 9 Douro St, Stratford, ON, followed by a light luncheon.
A special thank you to the wonderful staff and caregivers at Cedarcroft Place Retirement Residence who took great care of Mary for over 2 years.
