ASHCROFT, Mary J. (nee SKOK)
August 18, 2022
Mary Ashcroft went to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 99 years of age. Mary was born January 31, 1923 in Saskatchewan. She worked for a farming family in her mid teens, before moving to Saskatoon in her early twenties. She raised her family in Saskatoon, and later, moved to Calgary in 1997 to be closer to family.
She assumed a role of serving during her entire life. From taking in those who needed help in Saskatoon, to sewing in both Calgary and Saskatoon for individuals and volunteer causes at her church. She demanded nothing, asked for one’s best and was always the first to lend a helping hand accompanied by a hug.
Mary’s greatest joys in life came from family relationships. She loved to be together with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She sewed clothes, mended, ironed, baked buns, picked berries to make jam all the while helping where she could.
Mary valued education, personal achievement and was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She proudly celebrated each accomplishment and academic success.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Newsham, Marlene Moreau, Linda and Murdoch Jardine, Carolyn and Henry Scheil; grandchildren, Kori and John Bailey, Kristen Dawson, Curtis and Shalina Newsham, Kim and Beth Moreau, Jody Moreau and Ryan Moreau, Danielle and Maiko Schmitz, Kaylene Scheil; her great-grandchildren, Anada, Alex and Karissa Dawson, Annika and Cole Newsham, Courtney Moreau, Serenity and Connor Moreau, and Bow Schmitz. Mary will be missed by these individuals, other relatives, and her friends.
Her last few years were lived out at the Brentwood Care Centre in Calgary, where the staff did a phenomenal job of caring for her. Her family wishes to acknowledge and thank the hard-working staff at Brentwood, who tirelessly supported Mary and her family during the lockdown of COVID and beyond.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at Foothills Alliance Church (333 Edgepark BLVD NW, Calgary) on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 2:00 PM. If so desired, donations may be made directly to Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers, 325 Manning Rd NE #200, Calgary, AB T2E 2P5.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary J Ashcroft August 18th 2022..
