It is with great sadness that the family of the late (Mary) Helena Churchill, announce her passing peacefully away on November 15th 2022, at the age of 101.
Helena was born May 15, 1921, in Stephenville, NL to the late James and Mary Ellen (Cormier) Benoit. She was one of 14 children, with 5 brothers: Patrick, Joseph, Luke, Paul and Isaac as well as 7 sisters, Ellen, Edna, Elizabeth, Madeline, Catherine, Lillian and Josephine. She is survived by her loving brother, Andrew Benoit (Rose), residing in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Helena married the late Eldred Churchill on November 24, 1948. They raised ten children together: The late Wayne (Rose) Churchill, Gloria (Michael) Reddy, Gary (AnnMarie) Churchill, Beverly (Hugh) Cooper, Paul (Jennifer) Churchill, Jane Chaisson, Karen Churchill, Gail Eastman, Jacqueline (Louis) Greene, Christine (Brian) Kelly. Helena was so proud of the incredible adults they have become and the beautiful families they have raised, including 30 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Children were drawn to her, and she was always happiest when they were around.
Helena had a passion for cooking, and she made the best homemade bread, moose pies, and cakes. She was an avid knitter and seamstress, adding her personal touch to many special occasions, from handmade Christmas stockings to intricate wedding and christening dresses. She was known for her keen sense of humour and quick wit, always game for anything. Her beautiful smile would light up a room, and she glowed the brightest when she was surrounded by family and friends.
She was devoted to her faith, having instilled her beliefs and the gift of prayer to countless friends and family. Her kindness was without limit, whether you just met her or she knew you all her life!
Helena will be deeply missed by all who love her – her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and wide circle of family and friends.
