Mary Guendeline (Wendy) MacPhail

Mary Guendeline (Wendy) MacPhail died peacefully on May 30th, with her loving family at her bedside. Wendy, born in Halifax, was the third child of Madeleine (Glassey) and Judge John J. Hogan. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Patricia Maltais, brother Peter, sons David and Mark, and loving husband Heath. Wendy is survived, and will be dearly missed, by her sisters Madeleine Scott (Herb) of NB, Anne McMaster of BC; daughter Beth, son Mike (Karen), daughter-in-law Joan (Mark), and grandchildren Jeremy (Sarah-Anne), Sabrina, Cian, and Hayden, all of NS.
In her early years, Wendy lived in Chester, NS; Fredericton and Bathurst NB; and Halifax, NS, where she met the love of her life and to-be husband, Heath. They started their young family in Halifax, eventually moving to Bible Hill in 1969 where they raised their family.
Wendy worked for most of her professional career at the CIBC bank, working her way up from teller to branch manager. She enjoyed sports, travelling, knitting, tole painting, reading, and most of all spending summers with family and friends at their cottage on Shortts Lake.
After the passing of her beloved Heath, Wendy moved to Dartmouth be closer to her children and grandchildren, where she lived until her passing.
Wendy will be remembered for her sharp wit, curious intellectual nature, and toughness beyond measure. Her last words in echoing her children’s admiration of that trait were ‘I’m a tough cat!’. Enough said, Momma. Enough said.
A private family service will be held at the site of her internment this week in Bible Hill, where she’ll join Heath and David in rest.
