Mary M. Craig
1935-2022
It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear
mother Mary Marina Craig of Fredericton and formerly of Carlisle, N.B.
Her death occurred on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton at the age of 87 after a recent period
of rapidly declining health. Mary was born April 11, 1935 in Carlisle,
the daughter of the late Earl and Effie (Amos) Pratt. She was also
predeceased by her husband, Ronald in 2011; 1 brother, Glen Pratt
(Leona); sisters in law, Betty Pratt, Bernice Graham (Ivan), Vesta
Berry, Reta Wallace (Ted), Ruby Kimball, Wilma Jones (Donald) and Erma
Mangum (Harold); brothers in law, Elbridge Craig (Elva), George Craig
(Ruth), Kenneth Craig, Oliver Craig, Kenneth Craig
(Grace).
Mary is survived by her 2 children, Nelda Craig and Ross
Craig (Lisa); 2 grandchildren Avery and Ryan Craig, all of
Fredericton. Mary was a cherished Wife, Mum, Nanny, Aunt, Sister and
Cousin who will be dearly missed by all of the family, and friends,
both near and far.
Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mary attended school in Carlisle, graduated from Hartland High School
in 1954 and attended N.B. Teacher’s College in 54 and 55. She began
teaching in Knowlesville, then Mount Pleasant, Coldstream, and East
Florenceville. Mary met and was happily married to Ronald in 1961.
They were referred to as the RC-MP when seen driving about. Ronald and
Mary lived in Carlisle and had two children, a daughter Nelda and son
Ross. She taught as a supply teacher and worked on the family farm
while her children were young. She worked in the kitchen at the
Central Carleton Nursing Home until
retiring.
Of Christian faith, Mary regularly attended church
throughout her life at Carlisle, Bannon, Cloverdale, and more recently
the Mount Pleasant United Baptist Church before moving to
Fredericton.
Mary enjoyed bird watching, especially the pair of eagles
that nest each year in the large white pine on the hill. She also
enjoyed quilting, painting and knitting.
Visitation will be held from the Britton Funeral Home, 2
High St. Hartland on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 12:00 – 1:45 pm.
A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm from the Lorne Britton
Memorial Chapel. Rev. Peter Culberson will officiate. Respecting the
family’s wishes masks should be worn. The interment will be held in
the Cloverdale Cemetery. For those who wish, donations made to the NB
Lung Association, Cloverdale Cemetery or to a charity of the donor’s
