Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother Mary Catherine Moore. She passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of Monday, March 14th, of pancreatitis, in Courtenay, British Columbia, at the age of 75. She was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario on September 1st, 1946 to her parents Ione and Charles Moore, along with siblings Edward, Ellen, Dennis and Rebecca. For the three of us, Kim, Nathan and Timothy, she was a stay-at-home mom as we grew up. She was always there for us, providing adventures, supporting our grand ideas, nurturing our talents and gifts, and providing a home filled with love and fun. She delighted in being a mom-to-all whenever her nieces, nephews or our friends came over to visit. This continued into our adulthood, with her playing second-mom to our circle of friends and spouses. She loved everyone as she would her own, the list of “her kids” is almost endless. She was dubbed “Mère” by Keith, which became a perfect term of endearment, used by many. And when the next generation came along, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren Chloe and Mia. Our Mom had many gifts and talents. We will always remember her wonderful cooking, be it at a campground on Pelee Island making pancakes on the barbecue or putting on a feast for family and friends on holidays with the good china. She was a talented seamstress, for many years making all her clothes (and Kim’s to match) as well as costumes for the kids for our Figure Skating Carnivals or for school plays or Sunday School Christmas Pageants. Going back to school at the age of 40, she graduated from the University of Windsor with Teaching and Music degrees and a Psychology minor. She then moved out West to British Columbia, where Kim and Keith and Nathan were already residing. There she taught, mostly as a private tutor for ESL students and at private schools. She took great joy in teaching young children how to read. She also took great pleasure in training people in vocal music whenever she had the chance. She was a natural and talented teacher. Our Mom made friends everywhere she went. She’d strike up a conversation with anyone she’d meet, she was so carefree and cheerful and loved to meet new people. Her deep friendships with people who were dear to her were plentiful. From her bible study group in Kingsville and Harrow (who are still close with us today), to her teacher friends and choir-mates in Vancouver, Port Alberni, Campbell River and Courtenay, to all her close friends she met along the way, she spoke often and lovingly about all the wonderful people in her life. Her love for animals, nature and the ocean made Vancouver Island an ideal home location for writing several books that included unique Biblical studies, thoughts on Psychology and accounts of Miracles. Her heart was constantly filled with music and it showed through in many ways; playing the piano at home and in church, singing in numerous choirs and musical groups, as well as composing volumes of Choral, Gospel and Classical works, be it in school or in her spare time. Her wonderful smile, loving, warm nature and incredible sense of humour will be deeply missed by all who knew her. And if you did know her you’ll have many wonderful memories of laughter, music and her unique way of loving to cherish forever. We are planning a Celebration of our Mom’s life for later in the year to be held seaside in the beautiful background of Vancouver Island that she called home. We will update this memorial website with that info as soon as a date is set. We would like to thank all our family and friends who have been sending such beautiful messages and memories of our Mom. They show us how much she was loved by everyone who came into her life, and how much she will be missed. She will be in our hearts and memories forever. We encourage you to post pictures of yourself with our Mom to this site, as many photos as you’d like. We will also start to upload pictures of her with the people she loved, so we can all remember her together
