Mary (or as she was more affectionately known to family and friends – Bab) passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, in the presence of family, on Sunday, January 23, 2022 in her 95th year.
She is predeceased by her husband Tom (1973); parents James W. and Esther O’Driscoll; sisters Laura (Lawrence Lundrigan – deceased), Theresa (Patrick Hyde – deceased), and Hannah (Garrett Colbert – deceased); parents-in-law Patrick and Anne Molloy, as well as many members of the O’Driscoll and Molloy families.
Leaving to mourn her loss, as well as celebrate a life well-lived, her daughters Elaine (Alex Power) and Karen (Derrick Noseworthy), her son Gerard (Tanya); six grandchildren: Lucas (Nancy) Power, Nicolas Power (Laura Dillon); Gillian Noseworthy (Blake Power), Danielle Noseworthy; Audrey and Bridget Molloy; and one great-grandchild Amelia Power. Also mourning her loss are many nieces and nephews, especially Harriet Carroll, and many friends and neighbors especially Zita Dunphy, Emmie Luby and Annie Power.
Heartfelt thanks go out to: all staff of 7 East and West at St. Clare’s for the exceptional care provided to mom and the respect and consideration shown to her and our family; staff of Alderwood Estates where she was made feel at home; and staff of Quality Homecare. Thank you to Dr. Rod McCarthy, Family Physician and staff of Bay Bulls Family Practice; Dr. Sam Aseer, Rheumatologist; and Dr. Erica Stone, Anaesthesia (pain management) for their compassion and professionalism over the years.
Mom was widowed at age 46 with three young children. She was a hard worker – working for years at Tors Cove Fisheries. She enjoyed bingo, a game of cards and having her family around for a delicious meal – especially Sunday dinner. Her faith was strong and unwavering to the end. She prayed the rosary every day and attended mass every Sunday until mobility issues prevented her from doing so – but not one to be deterred she participated in daily televised mass. She was a wonderful baker (best homemade bread ever!); could paint, hang wallpaper or lay flooring/carpet. She loved to knit, crochet and sew; enjoyed berry picking, trouting, a good boil-up in the woods and a “HOT” cup of tea. This past year was a challenging one for her medically but she faced it, as she did every adversity, with quiet grace, determination and perseverance.
Resting at Ryan’s Funeral Home on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Following Alert Level 4 Guidelines, proof of vaccination and masks are required. Mass of Christian Burial to take place on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Patrick’s RC Church, Witless Bay. Due to the current Covid restrictions, attendance will be by invite only. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart RC Cemetery, Tors Cove.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted by the Tors Cove Cemetery Committee (attention Bob O’Keefe, Tors Cove, NL, A0A 4A0) or a charity of one’s choice.
