Mary Anne (Ross) Vaughan died peacefully on September 4, 2022 with her family by her side. Cherished wife of the late David Lawrence Vaughan (2013). She is survived by her children Brandon (Nancy), Steven (Sarah) and Heather (Scott). Beloved Nanny to Devin, Owen, Morgan, Michael, Emma, Evie, Alexis and Zoe. Sadly missed by her brother John and by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her mother and father and by brothers Edward and Don (Ding) Ross.
Mary Anne was born on June 12, 1947 in Clinton, Ontario to Gordon Ritchie Ross and Sarah Agnes Pearl Ross (Crittenden). She spent 20 years raising her family in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, returning to Brockville in 1996. Mary Anne was trained and worked as a nurse in paediatrics early in her career. She left nursing to raise her family and provide daycare for children in the community. Her love for children was most evident in her unwavering commitment to child welfare. For almost 40 years she and her husband David welcomed dozens of vulnerable children into their home where they provided a loving and safe environment. She was an active member of the Foster Family Association and volunteered many hours supporting and mentoring adoptive parents and other foster families. Her passion for children helped her win the Girls Inc. Woman of the Year in 2011.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Sunday, September 25, 2022 between 11am – 4pm at 81 First Avenue, Brockville. A private burial will occur at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of the BGH Palliative unit for the excellent care and support they provided.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation Palliative Care unit would be gratefully acknowledged.
