Mary Ann (Marrie) Cameron
September 22, 1925 – September 10, 2022
It is with hearts full of sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Mary Cameron at the age of 96; on September 10 2022 at the L. A. Miller Center Palliative Care Unit in St. John’s, with son Art at her bedside.
Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur P. Cameron; parents Stephen and Mary Marrie; brothers: Francis, Steve and Kevin; and sisters: Pauline, Margaret, Agnes and Betty.
Left to mourn with cherished memories are her children: Diane, Art, Noel, David and Robin; two grandchildren Arthur and Alexandria Cameron, whom she dearly loved; sister Theresa Williams; brother and sister-in-law Ray and Eileen Marrie; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, too numerous to mention but all so special.
Mary grew up in Salmonier, St. Mary’s Bay and moved to St. John’s in 1939, where she was a Graduate of the School of Nursing St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital Class of 42. In 1952 she married Arthur P. Cameron, and they were blessed with five amazing children. Starting life together they settled in Holyrood, then Bishops Falls and onward to Edmonton Alberta, and eventually back home to Newfoundland in 1991.
Mary loved to travel, often visiting places with Diane & Art through the years, and for the thirty years following her husband’s passing she would travel to Edmonton in the summer months and then again in December to spend Christmas with her children and grandchild.
She found so much joy with the people she loved, and always looked forward to morning coffee & chatting with her many friends at Tim’s. To all her family and friends she will be fondly remembered for her “lemon meringue pie” that was always on the menu during special family dinners.
Mary was a devout Catholic and lived her life in faith and daily devotion serving her parish in any way she could. Comforted through her faith she is now welcomed into heaven and has trusted her eternal life to God.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude and thanks to so many friends and family for their caring, visits, cards, flowers, phone calls and prayers during her time in palliative care. You all lifted her spirits. To thank a few for their daily visits – her sister Theresa, Rosemary Cheeseman, Isabel James, Madge Applin, Sister Elizabeth Marrie, Sharon Dominic, Margaret Collingwood , Roslyn Crawley, Bev Gosse, Keith and Michelle White. A heartfelt thanks to the Staff (angels) of the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. L. A. Miller Centre for their relentless care and compassion. Thank you to the staff at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for their dedication to Mary over the past few months.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Caul’s Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, on Tuesday, September 13th from 6:00-9:00 pm. Funeral service to be held from Cauls’ Chapel on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 1:00 pm with inurnment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As one of Mary’s confidant’s simply put it: Mary was a woman of courage, dignity and strength who deserved to leave on her terms, trusting in a God who fulfills His promises, so we too shall continue to find every reason to trust in Him as Mary did.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Mary Ann Cameron 2022..
