Martha Elaine Langille Annand May 4 2022

Annand, Martha Elaine (Langille) – Age 90, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 4, 2022. She was born in Riversdale, Colchester County, a daughter of William and Lucy Anne (Naugler) Langille.
Martha received her early education in Truro. In 1953 she graduated from the NS Hospital with her nursing degree. She worked at the Colchester Regional Hospital and did numerous hours of private duty nursing. She continued to be involved with nursing as a board member on the VON and through her readiness to bake a pan of squares or make a batch of soup for someone who was under the weather or battling an illness.
Martha played women’s softball with the Truro Slugs, winning 1945, 1946, and 1950 provincial titles and creating many lifelong friendships. She was very proud of her team when they were inducted into the NS Sports Hall of Fame in 1980.
On April 3, 1954, Martha married Charles Annand. They were both active members of St. Andrew’s Church and avid skiers at Ski Wentworth. Martha especially loved skating at Hamilton’s Outdoor Rink with Mary as young kids, fishing with her brothers and sisters at Trout Lake and bridge night with the girls. She enjoyed travelling all around the Maritimes to watch Scott’s football games and flying to Calgary to see Lara.
But her most treasured spot was the cottage where summers were filled with swimming, vegetable gardening, tending to her sweet peas, watching the hummingbirds and walking the beach with her grandchildren Megan, Emily and Drew. Each evening at the cottage she could be found watching for the blue herons as the sunset dipped into the ocean.
In the last ten years of her life, she fought hard against dementia. Thank you to Dr. Bower, the staff at Karlaine Place and the staff at The Mira, Mayflower Lane, especially Kelly, Tina, and Connie.
Martha was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Charlie (2002). She was also pre-deceased by brothers, Bob, Doug, Chester and Elmer and sisters, Jean, Dorothy, Muriel, Mildred and Lillian. She is survived by her identical twin sister, Mary, whose love, and support has no words. Their bond could not even be broken by dementia when mom’s only word was Mary.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Scott (Patty) Annand, Lara (Dannie) MacNeil. Her granddaughters, Megan and Emily will remember all the fun times with Nana walking in the woods, searching for beach glass and baking treats. Her grandson, Drew colored many pictures for Nana’s room at The Mira and loved telling her stories on the phone. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
We would also like to recognize and thank St. Andrew’s United Church for the many years of support for mom. The church held a special place in her heart.
