Houser, Marlene Joyce
Entered into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Friday January 21, 2022, at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville after a courageous battle with cancer, 13 days short of her 68th birthday. Beloved life partner and soulmate of Gordon Houser for 47 years. Loving mother of Daniel, and his wife Lisa. Marlene is predeceased by her parents William and Joyce Houser, and by brother Larry. Daughter-in-law to the late Roy and Madeline Houser. Marlene will be fondly remembered by sister in-law Jeannette Meadows (late Dave), and by brother in-law and sister in-law Orlin and Judy Houser. She was an aunt, great aunt, and great-great aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Marlene graduated from Dunnville Secondary School in Commercial. She worked many years as a secretary, first as a Service Representative for Dunnville Community Telephone Company. When Bell Canada took over she stayed in Dunnville, and worked for several real estate brokers, and finally for Dr. Parr and Dr. Seddon Optometrists. After raising our son Daniel, she returned as the church secretary at the Dunnville Grace United Church. She was also their pianist / organist and temporary musical director. She was also a half time pianist at Mt. Olivet United Church years later. Her passion was music even from an early age, achieving her Grade 8 Piano. Marlene was a member of a church youth choir called the Celebration Seekers which lasted almost 20 years from the early 1970’s. One of her favourite songs was ‘Live for Jesus’, during that time period. She was the pianist for the Dunn Quartet, and most recently the pianist for the SCCC adult choir. She made many handmade quilts, and comforters, and loved crafting gifts to give away at Christmas. She was an avid gardener alongside her husband Gordon. Marlene was her father’s fastest strawberry and raspberry picker. Already, sadly missed by pets Missy, and Sasha.
A special thank you, to Dr. Xu and Dr. Blake, and the many nurses at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital for the care and compassion they had shown Marlene during her time with them.
A funeral service will be held at South Cayuga Community Church on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 1:00 pm. Those wishing to attend the service must RSVP through the funeral home website. Masks are required inside the church, as well as the church premises. Arrangements entrusted to BALLARD MINOR FUNERAL HOME, Dunnville (905-774-7277). Cremation has taken place. Interment will be announced later in the year, with a Celebration of Life to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marlene may be made to Dunnville Hospital and Healthcare Foundation, or Muscular Dystrophy Canada, and would be greatly appreciated.
