Marlene Kroeker
1948-2022
With sad hearts and wonderful memories, Marlene’s family announces her passing. After many years of struggling with chronic lung disease Marlene left us on Wednesday Aug 24, 2022. Her passing was quick, and she was with her family in her last moments. Left to mourn her passing are her four children Melanie MacIver (David), Donovan Kroeker (Shannon), Aaron Kroeker (Lindsey Davidson), and Rachael Kroeker (Dave McMillan); sister Carol Pullano (Richard); grandchildren, Zoe and Finley Kroeker, Chloe and Aria MacIver, Henry Kroeker; and loyal canine companion Elvie. She was predeceased by her parents William and Iona Varey, and in-laws Jake and Annie Kroeker.
Marlene was born on December 8th, 1948 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She lived in St. Vital her whole life. After high school Marlene completed her registered nursing training, where she met some of her lifelong best friends. She worked for many years at the St Boniface hospital, primarily in the maternity ward caring for newborn and premature babies.
Eldon and Marlene met in January 1970, and were married June 30, 1972. They lived a full life together raising four children and spending summers at the family cabin at Booster Lake. Eldon passed away October 2019, and was dearly missed. Marlene thought of him every day, and never fully recovered from his passing.
Marlene lived for family get-togethers at the cabin, and then later in Gimli, where she made beautiful memories with her children and grandchildren. Family was the top priority for Marlene, who would do anything to spend time with her five grandchildren. Marlene loved to be outside in her garden, and managed to fill her patio garden with an incredible number of planters and bird feeders. She was an avid reader, and especially treasured the relationships with her book club ladies. One of her favourite quotes from Cicero is “Anyone who has a book collection and a garden wants for nothing”
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses that administered IV’s to Marlene at home, her dedicated doctors, the IVIG nursing team, and a special thanks to Charlotte who provided exceptional care for Marlene and family over many years.
Donations in Marlene’s memory to the Winnipeg public library would be gratefully appreciated.
