Mary Laasanen
In loving memory of Marja Helena (née Valimaa) Laasanen (known by her friends as Maija or Mary), who passed away peacefully on July 28th at the age of 76 surrounded by her family and friends.
Born on January 24th, 1946 in Kurikka, Finland, she and her family moved to Sudbury in 1952, settling in the Long Lake area. For the last 50 years, she lived in her home in Minnow Lake where she raised her children and grandchildren. She had a passion for gardening and baking, and loved spending time at the family camp on Long Lake.
Beloved wife of the late Olavi Laasanen, daughter of the late Kalle and late Helvi (née Pulli) Valimaa, and late step-mother Lily (née Kujalo & Yli-Renko) Valimaa. Sister to brothers Mike (Tuula), and the late Mark (late Gert). Mother of Paul, David (Andrea), and John (Tiffany), and grandmother (mummo) to Lena, Oliver & Catherine. Sadly missed by her special life-long friends: Kankaanpaas, Valtonens, Alanens, Nykanens, Koskelas, Ihanders, Tuhkasaaris, Liinamaas and many others.
The family would like to recognize and thank the staff of the 7th floor at Heath Sciences North. They went above and beyond with their care and support.
Cremation will take place at Park Lawn Cemetery where she will be interred in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
