Obituary of Marion Yvonne Walter
Marion Yvonne Walter (nee Wiberg) passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the age of 88 with her family close by her side. Born to Joseph and Lillian Wiberg on April 4, 1934, Marion grew up on a farm near Fillmore, SK along with her brother, Larry. She attended Wheaton School until her Grade 12 year, which was spent at International Bible College in Estevan, SK.
Marion was an extraordinary woman. She was a loving wife to John, a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a kind-hearted friend to many. Her door of hospitality was always open to anyone who needed help or just wanted to share a visit over a cup of coffee.
One of Marion’s greatest life passions was her teaching career. She taught elementary school for almost 30 years following several years as a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and teaching vacation Bible club in the family home. She poured herself into her students, encouraging their abilities, and delighting in drawing out the potential of each child. Her kindness and patience, together with her sense of humour and classroom discipline made her a beloved teacher by students and parents alike. Even years after retirement, former students would greet her and express how much they liked being in her class. Her teaching career included playing piano and organizing and directing many delightful school musicals.
Marion enjoyed contributing to the community which she did by serving on the Regina city planning commission and often canvassing for causes that she believed would better our city and province. She was a voracious reader, the Bible being her first priority. She loved to bake, make candy, and had a life-long love of cats. She loved to laugh, and her witty sense of humour was evident even after the onset of her illness. Marion’s intellectual and musical achievements include receiving the Governor General’s award for Academic Excellence in high school, completing Grade 11 piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music with 99% mark and honours, and a B.Ed with Distinction as a mature student. Prior to receiving her B.Ed, she had earned her Teaching Certificate with four young children at home.
The most important aspect of Marion’s life was her faith in the Lord Jesus, which she delighted in sharing with others at every opportunity. Even while in care Marion prayed, praised and responded to the expressed worship of God and reading of the Bible, highly unusual for a person so afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease. Right to the end of her life, she demonstrated recognition of her family – a beautiful testimony of the Presence of the Holy Spirit in her. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Lillian Wiberg. She is survived by her loving husband, John, of 68 years; children Delaine (Dale) Allen of Regina, Dean (Sharilyn) Walter of Regina, Darla Jean (Dwayne) Redekopp of Regina Beach, and Donna (Murray) Rosin of Regina; grandchildren Josh, Adrienne, Robyn, Morgan, Miranda, Derek, and Danica; great-grandchildren Kingston, Mavery, Duke, Harper, Daxton, and Felix; and brother Larry (Sylvia) of Phoenix, AZ.
The family would like to thank the management and staff of Brightwater Senior Living for their kind and compassionate care of Marion during her stay there.
A Celebration of Marion’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022 at Avonhurst Pentecostal Assembly, 3200 Avonhurst Drive, Regina, SK. A Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Paragon Funeral Services, 521 Victoria Ave. A Private Family Interment will be held.
