Marion Belskie
1940 – 2022
Marion Belskie left this earthly realm on October 27, 2022, after a short fight with lung cancer at the age of 82 years. It would be wrong to say that that Marion lost her battle because she never stopped fighting right up to the last day. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in Marion. She was a true Scotswoman; stubborn as hell.
Marion was born in Broxburn, West Lothian, Scotland in 1940, and emigrated to Canada with her family as a young teenager. They settled in Jasper, Alberta, which always remained close to her heart. She was an extremely talented lady excelling at sewing, knitting, cooking, baking and making awesome handmade soaps and fragrances. Marion worked many years at Tranquille Institution in Kamloops, British Columbia, a residential complex for people with developmental disabilities, until her retirement, all while being a wife and raising her children. She was an avid reader and really enjoyed her books. Even when she lost her eyesight to macular degeneration she listened to ebooks.
Marion is survived by three daughters, Valerie (Jean) of Plantognet, Ontario, Serena of Drayton Valley, Alberta and Christina (Lance) of Kelowna, British Columbia; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and sister, Rena (Joseph) Sawatski of Edmonton, Alberta.
She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, James “Mickey” Bleskie who she missed desperately; son, James; parents, James and Joan Martin; brothers, George, James and John and sister, Mary.
Family and friends are grateful to Marion’s daughter, Serena, who took the past few years out of her own life to take care of her mom after her husband passed away, and would also like to thank the Drayton Valley Hospital staff who took care of Marion for the last few weeks of her life.
Marion’s cremated remains will be laid to rest at the Jasper Cemetery early next year. Once the plans are made, the information will be shared.
At the family’s request, those wishing to make memorial contributions in Marion’s name are asked to make donations directly to the Cancer Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Institute for the Blind.
