It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of Marion Meaurita Varner, age
83, of Springhill. Marion passed away peacefully, surrounded
by her family, going to be with her Lord and with her husband, on
Friday, August 19, 2022.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of
the late John and Meaurita (MacCulley) Baker.
Marion was a member of the Salvation
Army Officer for over 50 years, ending as Core Sargeant
Major. She volunteered for many different
charities. Known to most kids around town as Nan, she was a
loving wife, mother and grandmother and great grandmother.
They didn’t have much, but always had enough to share with anyone in
need.
She will be dearly missed by her
children, Steven (Janice), Heather’s Beach, Laurie (Irene), Gary,
Kathy (Wally) Brown, Linda (Billy) Legere, Mark (Nancy), and Michael
(Heather), all of Springhill and Jamie (Bianka), Latvia; several
grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews;
sisters Noreen Simons, Campbell River, AB, Linda (Leo) Dumphy,
Springhill, Sharon Campbell, Oshawa, ON, Nellie Gilbert, Springhill,
Beverly Bowes, Kingston, ON; brothers Eric Baker, BC, Marvin (Marie)
Baker, Kingston, ON, Donald (Joanne) Baker, Pictou, NS, and Jim
(Wilma) Hahnen, New Glasgow, NS.
She was predeceased by her husband
Gerald; brothers Joey Hahnen, Ivan Hahnen, Billy Baker, Murray
MacCulley, Gerald Baker; sister Joyce Burke.
Arrangements have been entrusted into
the care and guidance of the A H Brown Funeral
Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597
2361). Visitation will take place at the Salvation Army
Church, Springhill on Monday from 6 until 8 pm, Tuesday from 2 until 4
pm and 6 until 8 pm, and Wednesday from 1 pm until 2 pm, followed
immediately by her funeral service at 2 pm, Captain’s Stephen and
Rosalyn Toynton officiating. Burial will follow immediately
in the Hillside Cemetery. Following the burial, all are
invited to return to the Salvation Army Church for a time of
refreshment and memories.
Donations in Marion’s memory made be
made to the Salvation Army Springhill, or the Springhill
Foodbank.
