Obituary
Marion Grace Parsons (nee Pardy) passed peacefully and quickly at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home on September 17th, 2022 at age 76. She was predeceased by her husband Gord, and her sister Rae. She leaves behind two dedicated children and their partners, Andy (Judy) and Darlene (Steve), and was so proud of her four grandchildren: Vanessa (Andrew), Jonathan (Kimmy), Matthew (Skylar) and Sarah (Ryan). Left to share stories and fond memories are her devoted siblings Doll (Jim), Wilf (Susan), and Bill, as well as her nieces and nephews, Andrea, Karen, Nicole, Bill, Krista, Nick and Daniel, and a large circle of great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and friends.
Grace was born in 1946 to Wilson Pardy and Annie Aitken in Come By Chance, and spent most of her life in Corner Brook. She was strong and steadfast, and became a pillar for her siblings when their mother died at a young age, assuming the role of matriarch for her extended family.
Grace was generous and kind, and could always be counted on when anyone was in need. She was immensely proud of the beautiful life she created for herself over the years. She delighted in her family and her home, and loved when everyone would gather for holidays or Sunday dinners: cooking and baking and fussing, plying everyone with chocolate cake and nanaimo bars, inviting everyone along and treating them as if they were her own.
She loved her job at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, and took great pride in her role there until she retired to care for her husband. She also loved her garden; her snowball tree, her yellow roses and her bleeding hearts. One of her favorite things to do was travel to far-off places on adventures with her siblings and relatives, and she surrounded herself with photos, stories and souvenirs of these trips, which brought her much joy. Even as her health began to decline, she was able to take a tropical vacation with her children and extended family, and went with her sister Doll to Scotland, to visit their mother’s relatives one last time.
Special thanks are extended to the staff at Mountainview Retirement Home, and the nurses and staff of Blueberry Crescent Protective Care Unit at the Western Health Long Term Care Home. There are so many kind souls at work in these places who helped her navigate her struggle with dementia over the past few years. Everyone in the family sends their gratitude.
As per her request, cremation will take place and a funeral and celebration of her life will occur at a later date. Flowers are graciously accepted, and donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada in her memory are welcome.
“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies…a child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you’re there.”
