Marilyn Willis
1949 -2022
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Marilyn, loving wife of Brian and devoted mother to Adam and friend to all whose lives she touched. Marilyn had been battling Parkinson’s Disease (Lewy Body Dementia) for the past few years. She left us peacefully surrounded by family in Almonte, Ontario in her 74th year.
Marilyn was born March 10th 1949 in Almonte, Ontario and lived her entire life in the Carleton Place area. She attended Queens University in Kingston, Ontario where she graduated with a Honors BComm, Accounting. Marilyn owned and operated Willis Bookkeeping for many years in Carleton Place. Marilyn expressed her creativity with her talents in cooking, stained glass, quilting, sewing and gardening. She and Brian took ballroom dancing which they demonstrated their skills at The Firemen’s Balls and several cruises. She was an active curler and golfer and later in life participated in weekly bowling games. Marilyn was fortunate to have spent many years living on Mississippi Lake with Brian, where she enjoyed swimming, water skiing and having friends and family visit. Happy hours with cottage neighbours were popular events. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her son strong values that have served him well. Her favorite times were having fun playing games with family and friends. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of fifty years Brian, son Adam (Julia), mother Shirley Sheinfield, sister Diane (Mike) McKinnon, and brother Joel (Darlene Gunness) Sheinfield along with nephews Jeremy Gunness (Chigusa), Craig (Pinar) and Ian (Kate) McKinnon.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place. A service to celebrate Marilyn’s life will follow at 12 noon in the chapel. All are welcome to attend a reception downstairs. Inurnment to take place at United Cemeteries.
