Marilyn Elizabeth McQueen (Kirkland) of Prescott Ontario
Saturday March 18, 1944 – Monday June 6, 2022
Marilyn passed away peacefully on June 6, 2022 with her son’s by her side at Palliative Care in the Brockville General Hospital, Brockville, at the age of 78. She is predeceased by her parents Harry & Gladys McQueen of Brockville Ontario, Sister-in-law Diane & Niece Stephanie of London Ontario and long-term partner Bill Bayer.
Marilyn is survived by brother Donald McQueen of London Ontario, and half-sister Diane Oxborough of North Gower. She will be dearly missed by her 2 sons Paul (Cheryl), Dale (Tammie) of Maitland. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her 5 Grandchildren Rick (Jen), Brad (Jenni), Cassandra, Josh (Britney), and Dylan (Sam) plus 9 great-grandchildren Arianna, Callie, Harley & Levi (Rick and Jen), Claire & Hailey (Brad & Jenni), Madison & Mason (Cassandra), Lilith (Josh & Britney), plus nieces and nephews.
Marilyn grew up in Brockville, attending Commonwealth and B.C.I. where both her parents were teachers. She pursued a career in Child and Youth Education working at group homes and later as an Educational Assistant in various Ottawa elementary schools. After retirement she continued to be involved in education volunteering at schools with the teacher prep work for the lessons both in Prescott and Ottawa until recently.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family, enjoying the stock car racing at Brockville Speedway owned by her son and where 3 of her grandsons raced. She managed the canteen where the entire family assisted in various operations of the business. She really loved dog sitting and looking after the family’s pets when the kids were away. Marilyn really cherished her time spent at family gatherings.
Marilyn quietly battled with cancer over the last few years and was grateful for the assistance she received from her close friends Joanne Veltkamp and Peter Fish. She was also grateful for the care she received from the many doctors, nurses and attendants with home care, Ottawa Cancer clinic and the Palliative Care at Brockville General.
The Kirkland family wishes to express sincere thanks on Marilyn’s behalf to her beloved friends Joanne and Peter for all the assistance, devotion, compassionate and supportive care they have given Marilyn during her illness.
Memorial Donations in her name to the Cancer Society would be gratefully acknowledged.
Interment will be held at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2451 County Rd 15, Maitland, ON. Graveside on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 10:00 am with Rev. Jack Bradley officiating. Reception will follow at Marilyn’s eldest grandson’s home Rick & Jen, co-hosted by Brad & Jenni, location 2724 North Campbell Rd, Prescott.
