July 9th, 1960 – August 12th, 2022
The family of Marilyn Kools mourns her loss, as she went home to be with God in the early hours of August 12th, 2022. Marilyn leaves behind her adoring husband Rob Kools, with whom she shared 38 years of devoted marriage. She is predeceased by her father, Don Bullock, and leaves behind her mother, Wendie Bullock. She leaves behind her three sons, three daughters in law, and four grandsons: Eric, Jeré and Leven; Nathan, Meghan, Nash and Everest; Ryan, Emily and Ezra. She also leaves her many siblings, siblings in law, nieces and nephews: Jim Bullock, Maria and Hannah; Laurie Phillips, Calvin, Melissa, Vanessa and Andy; Donna Kools, Steve, Megan and Danny; Carol Armstrong, Gary, Cody, Dakota, Logan, Dillan and Morgan; Hans Kools, Sharon, Colin, Katrina, Darren and Ean; Frank Kools, Lee, Thomas and Stacey, Marie Montague, Bill, Christina and Terri. Marilyn’s death leaves a void in the hearts of hundreds more lives that she helped shape, helped support, and helped grow.
Born tiny and fierce in Cambridge, Ontario on July 9th, 1960, Marilyn was raised in a loving Christian household as the eldest of five children. From a very young age she felt called to nurture and support the development of babies and children, which began with her playing a vital role in the caretaking of her younger siblings. As she grew, Marilyn became a licensed hair dresser and worked in the hospital “doing perms for the old ladies” there. She met the love of her life, Rob, at the roller rink on Hespeler road… He would fall completely in love with her after she threw her drink at a rude patron while they were at an event. They were married on March 31st, 1984. In 1985, a day over 25 years old, Marilyn welcomed her first child into the world. She would continue to bring children into her home, including two more sons, four grandsons, and dozens of children she babysat: nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, neighbors, children in the church nursery, children of friends’ and extended family, for the remainder of her 62 years. The privilege to love each and every one of those children was her life’s greatest joy.
Marilyn’s favourite pastime was enjoying her family, so in 2015 she and Rob purchased a two-cottage property with their very best friends, Steve and Donna, on the same road in Goderich, Ontario where they had sent all of their kids to Camp Hermosa for two decades prior. It brought her immense peace to lay on the beach with a “pini colada”, or on the deck upstairs with a colouring book or novel, listening to Rob and the boys working away, and eventually to her grandkids playing. She cooked dinner for any and all who wanted to join her at the cottage, and welcomed dozens of guests, shown in her beloved Cottage Guest Book, over the past seven years. All felt welcome, because Marilyn herself was so incredibly welcoming.
Above all else, Marilyn was a Godly woman. She spent her life doing everything in her power to love people the way Jesus did, and anyone who’s life was touched by her, would certainly say she did exactly that. Marilyn lived and loved the way she did because of her faith, and it brings her family unbelievable serenity to know that she will be with God in heaven, hand picking future grandchildren and waiting patiently for her family.
I have loved you with an everlasting love – Jeremiah 31:3
