Obituary of Marie Harvey
HARVEY, Marie (nee Johnson)
June 13, 1940 – November 17, 2022
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Marie at Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus on Thursday, at 82 years of age. Cherished wife of Vern for 57 years, having first met as 15 and 17 year old teenagers at Walkerville Collegiate in Windsor. Daughter of the late Lawrence and Marion Johnson, one of four siblings.
Marie was the loving mother of Kim Scherer (Mike), La Salle; Kevin (Nora), Windsor; and Kyle (Amy), Okemos, Michigan . She was the adored grandmother of Ryan and Erika Scherer, and Everett and Jillian Harvey. Marie absolutely loved how her grandchildren decided early on that the name “Doey” seemed more appropriate for her, and that’s who she was to them. She found great enjoyment attending all of their many hockey and baseball games, and was their strongest supporter and biggest cheerleader for those and any of their other extracurricular activities, whether it was swimming or sailing or ballet and dance recitals for the girls.
Marie will always be remembered by everyone who knew her for her captivating smile, her love of life and her beautiful laughter, which we will all greatly miss. She was really a person young at heart and absolutely enjoyed driving her little Mustang well into her late seventies her hair blowing in the breeze. Travel was something she always looked forward to and she cherished many special memories of winter vacations together in the Caribbean. She also found great enjoyment working in the garden being among the flowers she so loved, playing the piano, a fun game of cards or Rumoli, or simply just putting her feet up and relaxing with a nice cup of tea. Her lifetime friends were very special to her and spending time with her family was absolutely her greatest pleasure. Until we meet again my love.
The family would like to thank the outstanding group of doctors, nurses and surgeons headed by Dr. Ravi Taneja at University Hospital in London for their exceptional care and compassion for Marie for the month that she was there. Also, words are inadequate to express our family’s gratitude and thanks to the medical team at Windsor Regional Hospital – Ouellette campus, in particular Dr. Jahwar and the neurosurgery staff for the love and caring and comfort they gave to Marie every single day as her life journey came to a close.
Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel (Banwell) 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E. 519-253-7234 on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the time of a Celebration of Life service at 8 p.m. In keeping with Marie’s wishes cremation will follow.
