Live Life to the Fullest!
It is with great sadness the family of Marie Georgette Girard (née Doré), 74 years old, of Vernon, BC, announce her sudden and unexpected death on Friday, December 24, 2021.
Georgette was born on July 25, 1947, at St. Mary’s Hospital, New West Minister, BC, to Vincent (Matt) Doré and Annette Doré (née Dubois) . Georgette’s childhood was spent in Maillardville, BC where she attended school finishing grade 6. She then went to Edmonton and attended L’Académie de l’Assomption school in Edmonton, AB, where she graduated high school. Georgette maintained and valued her friendships from Maillardville and L’Académie her entire life- a true testament to her character.
Les Copines, a girls singing group made up of Georgette and some of her dear friends from L’Académie was formed in 1965. This powerhouse of eight harmonizing voices not only gave live performances in several provinces, but they also made appearances on national television and Radio shows! They enjoyed every minute of it!
In 1967, Georgette met Clement who fell in love at first sight with the beautiful young lady. The two were married on February 3, 1968, in Edmonton, AB. After a brief move to Montreal, PQ, the couple returned to Edmonton where they would raise their family. Georgette and Clem have three children, Daniel (Julie Carroll), Michelle Lakeman, and Rachel Krueger (Tyler Vanderheiden)- eight Grandchildren: Tegan (Cole Youmans), Conner and Bethany Lakeman, Nigel and Jacob Krueger & Jordan Vanderheiden, Scarlett and Sailor Carroll – and one great grandchild, Lukas Miller Lakeman. Georgette also had many “adopted” or honorary kids that were close to her heart including Doug Lakeman and Steven Krueger.
While in Edmonton, she obtained her Diploma in Early Childhood Education at Grant MacEwan college and worked in several schools as an educational assistant, librarian, and secretary. Georgette was very proud to go back to school in her 40’s. She attended the Faculté Saint-Jean, U of A, where she took all her classes in French and obtained her Degree in Education with honors. She taught kindergarten in various schools in Edmonton.
Georgette and Clem moved to Vernon, BC, in 2001, a place Georgette could often be heard to call “paradise”. Both loved the Okanogan weather, scenery, and serenity it offered. They loved nothing more than to host friends and family. Georgette taught at St James School in Vernon for several years until her retirement in 2012.
Mom made the most of life. She was filled with gratitude and joy. Her laugh was frequent, boisterous, and infectious. If she wasn’t laughing, she was singing or humming while puttering around the house or yard. Mom loved her family very dearly, playing cards with her friends, playing bridge online with her sister, sewing projects for her loved ones, swimming in the lake, reading all kinds of books, singing with the Vernon Community Choir, and all the simple pleasantries of life. Mom treated everyone she met with love and showed genuine interest in their lives.
Georgette will be profoundly missed by her devoted, loving husband and best friend, Clem, her kids, grandchildren, great grandchild, her sisters- Thérèse (Dave) Renshaw, Loraine (Charlie) Thomas- Sister-in-law, Germaine Doré, numerous nephews and nieces, and special extended family Ann, Wayne and Kris She was predeceased by her both of her parents, her brothers, Joe and Blair, sister-in-law, Betty and nephew, Marc Doré.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
We can all do small things with great love.
