Marie G. DeMerchant
1934-2022
The death of Marie Gladys Demerchant occurred Sunday, March 6, at Ruth
Anna’s Ladies Care Home, Hartland, NB. Marie was born on
September 17, 1934 in Mill Cove, NB. She was the youngest daughter of
the late Ottis and Janie Fanjoy. She was predeceased by her husband
Lawrence; brothers Frank, Norman, Garfield, Garnet, Abel, Lawrence
and Ronald; sisters Muriel, Garda, Leta and infant Louise; and
granddaughter Julie.
She is survived by one sister, Marjorie, her daughter, Debbie (Paul),
son Rick (Mary), grandson Ryan (Alison) and great grandchildren,
Emma, Nickolas, Sidney and Byron.
Marie grew up in the Jemseg, Carmbridge-Narrows area, a little
community between Fredericton and Sus. She attended a little
country school close to her home. She left home at about 18 and went
to work at a restaurant in Sus, where she met her future husband.
They moved back to the area where she lived the rest of her life.
Marie spent her life working as a waitress and cooking in several
local restaurants, Demerchant’s Diner, Buckingham’s and
Mr. C’s Canteen. She was a wonderful cook; her pies were always
the favorite among all the customers and she would often be baking
them at home to fill all of the requests. She also made the most
delicious donuts you’ve ever had. Those pies and donuts sure
will be missed. Marie was such a generous person and was always there
to help and support her family in any way she could. She loved animals
and was never without a dog or a cat by her side or on her lap. Her
little dog Ferbie was a great joy to her, they went everywhere
together, she dearly loved that little dog.
On behalf of the family, we want to extend a special thanks to Jessica
Ruff, the home care worker who came to the house to help with
Marie’s care. She enjoyed those visits. Also, an even greater
thanks to Ruth Anna’s Ladies’ Care Home for all the love
and support they showed her in the short time she was there. The
kindness they showed was truly inspiring.
Due to Covid situation and the family’s request, there will be
no visitation. A graveside service will be held in the Spring at the
Fielding Cemetery. For those who wish to make a donation, Marie would
have appreciated sending to DunRoamin’ Stray and Rescue. L.R.
