Obituary
Passed away peacefully in her sleep, at the family home home in Tamworth, Ontario early in the morning of Saturday, May 21, 2022. Marie-Ange Jeannine Sanders (nee Simard) at age 86. This following her release Friday, May 6, 2022; from the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital, Napanee, Ontario. Last rites were administered by Father Stephane Pouliot of St. Anthony of Padua Church at home, days before her death. Marie-Ange Jeanette was the daughter of Fortunat and Marie-Ange (nee Harrison) Simard-since deceased. She grew up in the French-Canadian farming enclave of Cluny, Alberta- which is a one hour drive east of Calgary, and south of the Trans-Canada Highway. Marie-Ange (Mary) is survived by two sisters; Aurett “Pat” (Allan) Schikosky of Calgary, Carole (Bruce) Clark of High River; and brother John (Joey) of High River. She was predeceased by her brothers Joe, Honore, and August “Gus”; and sister Jeanette Arbeau. Mary also has a twin sister Antoinette Simard who died two weeks after birth. Beloved wife of the late Stewart Sanders; dear mother of Todd, Cory and Martin “Marty”; loving grandma “mere mere” to Sarah Sanders. She was sister-in-law to Marge Buchanan of Edmonton, Alberta; and to Hugh and Jay Sanders of Saskatchewan. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and the United States. The family would like to thank the support of her friends and neighbours: Millie and Steven, Bernice, Eleanor, Judy and Peter, and Theresa: as well as the staff of St. Elizabeth Healthcare. Special thanks to Lorraine, Rose, Maggie, Jim, Brad and Kevin; for helping Mary and providing most excellent services and care. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 4 at St. Anthony’s of Padua Church at 11:00 a.m. with inurnment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery Columbarium. A Reception immediately follows at the Hannah Funeral Home in Tamworth. A gluten-free meal will be provided. Memorial donations made to St. Anthony’s Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
