Obituary
Alice Marian was born into the John Shaw family December 6, 1921, joining her siblings Jean, Jack and Margaret, followed a few years later by brother Gordon., Marian, as she became known spent her early years on the family farm attending Shaw School ¼ mile down the road. She completed High School at Duncan School in Swan River while living with her grandparent’s, the Hannah’s.
Marian and Dave Lumax were married June 30th, 1940, and never looked back! They were blessed with 4 children, Jack, Bonnie, Kathleen and Lynn and while raising them she had her garden (with the accompanying canning and freezing,) her sewing machine and piano! As the kids grew up and became involved in various activities Marian was the main chauffeur getting them to 4-H, music lessons, CGIT and cadets.
She was very involved in the Lidstone W.I. – her cakes with the 7 Minute fluffy frosting were always a big hit at the bazaars! Although she never really liked water, she always made sure most summers had time at a lake where the kids all took swimming lessons. Winters brought curling, knitting those gorgeous Mary Maxim sweaters, & needlework. Winters were also the time Marian and Dave would venture off on their many trips to see various parts of the world.
In 1973 they moved into their new home in Swan River, but farming was still very much part of their life especially in harvest which meant taking those hot meals out to the field. Being in town made it easier for Marian who began playing the organ for church, and golfing! In 1983 when Marian & Dave bought their winter home in Siesta Village in Weslaco, TX, they both became very involved with a new community of friends. In addition to golf, she added playing pool, and shuffling to her sports repertoire. As well she played the organ for church services and accompanied the choral group, acts for Variety shows and Fashion Shows.
While Swan was always considered “home” Marian had the pleasure of spending her last few years first with Bonnie in Richmond & New Westminster, and the last 6 months with Lynn in Calgary.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 65 years, Dave, and now has been joined by son, Jack.
Surviving her are daughters Bonnie, Kathleen (Rick) and Lynn (Larry), daughter-in-law Donna, their families, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Doreen, and many nieces and nephews.
