Obituary of Maria Bielak
Bielak, Maria
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Maria Bielak (nee Mazurkiewicz) on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the age of 85. Beloved wife of the late Kazimierz Bielak, and sister of the late Josef Mazurkiewicz, Maria is survived by her daughters Catharine Bielak and Irene Cameron, their spouses Daniel Noebert and Marvin Cameron, her grandson Brock and his spouse Courtland, and her great granddaughter Dakoda.
Born in the former Yugoslavia (Bosnia-Herzegovina) in 1937, Maria and her family and thousands of Poles were forcibly relocated to new territories in western Poland after the end of the Second World War. Following her marriage by proxy, she immigrated to Canada, joining her husband in St. Catharines in 1959. Maria was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a tireless worker. She was an active congregant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in St. Catharines, a member of the Polish Legion Ladies Auxiliary, an avid and prize-winning gardener, and enjoyed embarking on travel adventures with her daughters and sons-in-law.
In keeping with her wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted to George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 29 from 11 AM to 1 PM. A Final Tribute for Maria will follow in the Ceremony Room of the funeral home at 1pm. Interment Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
